Ball valves with metal-on-metal sealing are used as shut-off valves on pipelines transporting high-temperature media or media with solid particles that can damage soft seats.
The stainless steel saddles and ball are coated with chromium carbide for better resistance to corrosion and erosion, as well as to high temperatures. A design with one spring-loaded saddle and two is possible.
